What is Cosmetic Dentistry?

Improving your smile is our main focus.

Cosmetic dentistry refers to dental treatments that can help to improve the overall appearance of your smile as well as improving the health of your teeth and gums.

Here at Smile Pros Dental, we offer a range of cosmetic dentistry treatments including:

Teeth Whitening

Here at Smile Pros Dental, we are proud to offer Zoom! Teeth Whitening to our patients.

Zoom! Teeth Whitening is a great way to improve the appearance of your teeth. Whether it is done within our practice or at your home, this treatment can brighten your teeth up to eight shades lighter.

Take Home-Teeth Whitening
Take-home teeth whitening happens in three simple steps (after your initial consultation).

  1. Dental Impressions – After an initial consultation, you will need to have moulds of your teeth and bite taken. These moulds will then be made into teeth whitening trays.
  2. Getting Dental Trays – Your next appointment we will give you your custom-made trays, whitening gel and instructions. Take-home whitening is a slower process compared to in-office because the whitening gel is weaker.
  3. Wearing your trays as prescribed – To get the best result, follow the instructions we give you. It can take as long as 2 weeks to achieve your desired results with take-home teeth whitening.

In-Office Teeth Whitening

Having your teeth whitened in-office only takes two appointments:

  1. The first appointment is your consultation. This is where your oral health will be assessed, and your dentist will determine whether teeth whitening is the best treatment for you. An impression will be taken of your teeth to provide you with an at-home Zoom! Whitening maintenance kit.
  2. The second appointment is where you have your teeth whitened. Any surface stains are removed to allow the Zoom whitening gel to penetrate the tooth. This procedure involves placing a dental appliance to protect your gums from the whitening gel. The whitening gel is then applied to your teeth and a special blue light is applied to activate the gel. It works by oxidizing the yellow pigments in the teeth. This is done three times at 15 minutes intervals. This process takes just over an hour and can leave your teeth several shades lighter.

Dental veneers can restore the appearance of your smile. They are used to cover the front of the teeth to mask cosmetic chips, cracks and minor imperfections.

The team at Smile Pros Dental offers two types of veneers: porcelain and composite veneers.

Porcelain Veneers

These veneers are made of thin shells of porcelain and are colour-matched to your existing teeth. They create an enamel-like surface that helps to give you a perfect-looking smile. They can be polished to a higher lustre, are strong and resistant to stains and chipping.

Composite Veneers

Composite veneers are an affordable alternative which only takes one appointment. Even though they are a different material they are made to match the colour of your existing teeth.

A composite resin material is placed and shaped onto the desired teeth and is then hardened with a special blue light and polished. Composite veneers do not last as long as porcelain veneers nor are they as stain resistant. However, they are still an effective way of restoring the appearance of your teeth. They are reasonably strong when bonded to the enamel and be periodically refurbished by polishing.

Cosmetic Injectables

Cosmetic injectables is abroad term used to group medical substances that are injected into the skin in order to help improve the aesthetics and function of certain features. There are two main types of cosmetic injectables used here at Smile Pros:

Anti-Wrinkle Injections

Anti-wrinkle injections are used to relax facial muscles, which can prevent the skin from creasing and forming wrinkles. These injectables can help to reduce the appearance of ageing by lessening expression lines. As a muscle relaxant, anti-wrinkle injections can also help to reduce stress within the jaw joint, leading to improved function.

Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are injected into the dermal layer of the skin (the layer just below the surface) to help “fill” specific areas. They are used to create volume and accentuate contours or certain features like the lips and cheeks. Dermal fillers can be used as a standalone treatment or in conjunction with other cosmetic treatments.
